Blue

I remember shades of blue
sky upon water
surreal cerulean
that would not fade for season
or reason

in a land where dreams were born
and died
a place of quiet spirituality
and great unrest
in a tangle of contradiction
a fiction

of a reality unrealized
but for the blue

Separate the man from the setting
concrete and steel
languishing landscape
that does not change for reason
or season

in a land where dreams are reborn
and try
to reclaim what drifted down
a dry well
where hope springs
from broken wings

looking ever skyward
for the blue

So, do you just wake up, drink your coffee, and then a poem just comes to you? OR... Does it take you some time before you work it all out? As always, beautiful... or bluetiful. ;-)

Reminds me of the Earth, Wind, & Fire song "Keep Your Head To The Sky"...

Also, on the other side, it makes me think of the Cory Feldman line from "The Goonies" when they're at the bottom of a well and he says as Mouth: "(Holding up a coin) Yeah, but you know what? This one, this one right here, this was my dream, my wish, and it didn't come true. So I'm takin' it back. I'm takin' 'em all back. (Dives underwater)"

In this case, I did just wake up, drink some coffee, and write a poem. Sometimes I work to craft something more structured, but this one came out as you see it - about ten minutes and no editing.

I like the Goonies reference... thanks!

As always, great work!

And, could it be, that among your many, many friends that I alone am the only one to recognize the location the photo was taken?

(from atop Mt. Cadillac, Acadia Nat'l Park, Mt. Desert Island, Maine)

Ah, such fond memories!

If not already, this should be among the places one should visit in their lifetime.

Top of Cadillac Mountain, facing south... taken two days before heading 2,000 miles in that direction...

Thank you all for your kind comments. This is hardly the best poem I have written, but it articulates strong feeling I have been experiencing lately.

It is eay to romanticize the past, but the beauty of the area is undenialble.
